How to cancel Xbox Game Pass

Last checked Oct 2026Source: the company's own help page (linked below)

Cancel in your Microsoft account Subscriptions page. If you are eligible, you will see an option to cancel right away with a refund.

Menu pathaccount.microsoft.com > Subscriptions > Manage > Cancel subscription

Steps

  1. Go to the Subscriptions page of your Microsoft account and sign in with the account that bought Game Pass.
  2. Find Game Pass and select Manage.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and follow the steps. If you qualify, you will be offered to cancel immediately with a refund.
  4. On an Xbox console instead: press the Xbox button, go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Subscriptions, choose Game Pass, and select Cancel subscription.

Refunds, timing and things to know

  • Turning off recurring billing stops future charges and you keep benefits until the expiration date.
  • Refunds (Xbox's stated policy): a refund within 30 days of your first purchase or before your first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner. You can also get a refund of your most recent recurring charge if you cancel within 30 days after that payment; this works once per Microsoft account per Xbox subscription product.
  • If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, it is already set to expire and you will not be charged again.
  • Prepaid retail codes follow the store's return policy, not this one.

If someone else bills you

  • If a third party bills you, contact them about canceling and refunds.

Save proof. Take a screenshot of the confirmation screen and keep the confirmation email. If you are charged again after canceling, our billing error letter can help.
